House Closing - 8 Days and Counting

We are quickly approaching our closing as well as emptying our bank account. Every penny from the sale of our homes in Greensburg and the Southside has been sitting in an online money market just waiting for this day. Luckily, my son Alex was broke (you will see why - be patient). I told him I would transfer some money to him to help him finish out the semester. I logged on to the website and sent him a small amount of cash. I then decided while I was there, I should transfer our life savings into my local checking account. My heart almost stopped when I saw there was a monthly limit and a healthy chunk of our down payment was on lock down. I immediately called the bank, explained the situation and came up with a game plan. I transferred the maximum allowable and crossed my fingers that the rest came in the form of a check prior to closing. Of course I didn't want to tell Jeff but with marriage comes full disclosure. The check got to us yesterday. Forever and ever amen. Let's just say I have always believed in karma and now even more so. Thank goodness Alex spent all his beer money or I never would have known about the transfer situation.
The footer has been completely poured and the foundation is being constructed. I touched our house for the first time. (Jeff thought I was trying to see if the foundation was solid). It was amazing. The sun was shining and the blocks were warm. Oh yes, it was firmly cemented as well. We met "Cheese" (I love Pittsburgh) - one of the gentleman doing the foundation work. He walked up to us wondering if we were interested in buying. I sorted of shouted - "THE CORNER HOME IS OURS!" in a little too excited way. He said he figured we were already on board the way were checking everything out. He also explained that once the foundation was done, more plumbing could go in. He pointed out some of the pipes that were already laid for the electrical lines. The weather has been cooperating so it has been great conditions for building
On a side note - I referred three more people to October Development on Friday. Between Jeff and I selling Deutschtown as the up-and-coming-best-bang-for-your-buck-walkable-friendly-Pittsburgh-neighborhood, October Development should be completely booked for new construction and rehabs (not that they aren't already). Is is great to see so much interest from people who want to move into the city. I hope the city starts to show as much interest in the people.

  1. Exciting! The city should be sending you bouquets daily to thank you for investing here, selling others on living here and generally being awesome here. Or maybe they could use that money to simplify the approval, permitting and certification processes for building new houses in Pittsburgh. Hmm...

Kudos to Alex for his role in the fortuitous timing, though I have no doubt that it points back to the fact that your good karma cup runneth over. (Yeah, I'm mixing religio-philosophical references 57-style!).
